This comprehensive Test Plan provides a summary of what is covered on the NCLEX exam.
Particular emphasis should be given to pages 10-42 which provide a list of all content categories and subcategories on NCLEX, as well as question distribution, the percentage of test questions assigned to each client needs category and subcategory.
CLIENT NEEDS CATEGORIES
Notice that test questions are divided into categories with the following percentages:

What do these percentages mean to you? Knowing this information in advance can help you direct your practice and study efforts where they will make the most difference: Passing the NCLEX.
SAFE AND EFFECTIVE CARE ENVIRONMENT - Spend time with mobility, assistive devices, elimination, nutrition, and basic comfort measures.
PHARMACOLOGICAL AND PARENTERAL THERAPIES -Study adverse drug effects, expected drug effects, contraindications, IV therapy, pharmacological pain management, TPN, blood and blood products, central line (port) maintenance and use, oncology and chemotherapy, and dosage calculation.
REDUCTION OF RISK POTENTIAL - Focus your study efforts on basic lab values, diagnostic tests, therapeutic measures, or the possibility for post surgical complications.
PHYSIOLOGICAL ADAPTATION - Pay attention to fluids and electrolyte imbalances, and body function changes.
